2 Roosters, 1 Mustache, and the Best Coffee in Tehachapi

Howdy, everyone!

Welcome to the very first post from Mustache Ranch Coffee Co. We are so glad you’re here.

If you’re looking for a corporate, polished, "big-city" coffee experience… you might be at the wrong ranch. But if you like your coffee strong, your stories true, and your family-owned businesses a little bit "bonkers nuts" (more on that in a second), then pull up a chair. You’re officially part of the Herd.

From City Lights to Starry Nights
We’re Eric and Sherry. While we both grew up in the city, our hearts were always somewhere out on a trail. We spent our childhood weekends fishing, camping, and riding horses—basically anything that involved getting dirt on our boots and fresh air in our lungs.

Then, life happened. Eric joined the military (thank you for your service, honey!), I started my career in the business world, and we both stayed busy raising our kids and navigating the hustle and bustle. But separately, we both had the same itch: we wanted to get back to our roots. We wanted a small-town life where the stars were brighter than the streetlights.

Fate (and a little mountain magic) brought us both to Tehachapi, California.

The First Date (and The Birth of the ‘Stache)
Our very first date started exactly how this business started: over a cup of coffee. We followed that up with the Top Gun sequel, and let’s just say Eric took the "Goose and Maverick" aesthetic very seriously.

The mustache started as a joke that day to make me laugh. Well, the joke worked. I haven’t stopped laughing since, and the mustache - much like the two of us- just stuck. A few years, many laughs, and thousands of cups of coffee later, we married and blended our families into one big, beautiful, caffeinated crew.

Learning the Ropes (The Hard Way)
Our first adventure into ranch life wasn’t coffee—it was chickens. We built a coop and started with six chicks and one rooster. Or so we thought!

As it turns out, the universe has a sense of humor. We ended up with two roosters!

There was Elvis, the alpha, and Hank (named after Hank Williams Jr). We read that roosters could be "hit or miss," and Elvis was a big ol' MISS. He was absolutely “bonkers nuts”- chasing us, attacking the kids, and generally acting like he owned the place.  But his biggest crime? He wouldn't let poor, sweet Hank have a single moment alone with the ladies. If Hank so much as looked at a hen or tried to be a little "friendly," Elvis would completely freak out, flying around the coop like a feathered whirlwind of fury to shut it down. It was a 24/7 chicken soap opera, and Elvis was the villain!

Eventually, Elvis had to find a new trail to hike (for everyone’s safety!), and Hank was finally promoted to Head Rooster. He’s been a total gentleman ever since- a fierce protector of his ladies and a sweet boy to us. He finally gets the respect (and the hens) he deserves!  But man, he is prompt. When his "cock-a-doodle-doo" echoes across the ranch at 4:30 AM, there is only one thing that gets me out of bed: a hot cup of Mustache Ranch coffee.

What’s Your Flavor?
We built this company because we believe that coffee isn't just a drink—it’s what brings people together. It’s what Eric and I shared on our first date, and it’s what we share every morning before the ranch (and the kids) wake up.

We have a bit of a "house divided" situation when it comes to roasts, though:

Sherry’s Pick: I’m a dark roast girl all the way. My go-to is our Cowgirl Roast. It’s got these gorgeous, subtle hints of dark chocolate and brown sugar. It’s bold enough to handle a 4:30 AM wake-up call from Hank.

Eric’s Pick: He keeps it right in the middle with our Cowboy Roast smooth medium roast with hints of cocoa, caramel, and vanilla.

We both clearly have a thing for chocolate, but don't worry - it’s subtle. It’s just enough to make your morning feel like a treat before the work begins.
